Muddy Mayhem in Cabo: Buggies on The Beach

Cabo San Lucas felt like it was daring me from the moment we arrived. We signed up for a beach buggy adventure, imagining sun, sand, and a little thrill. What we got was far more than that—we got mud, chaos, and memories I’ll never forget.

From the start, the buggies were covered in mud and sand, the smell of gasoline and engines revving. We started on a trail that would later take us to the beach, where we raced across the sand, kicking up saltwater spray and soft. The wet sand quickly turned into mud, we were filthy head to toe. Mud covered our clothes, faces, and inside of the buggy. Every bump and turn made us laugh harder, slip more, and feel like kids again.

The core memory, though, belongs to my dad. He refused insurance on his buggy, claiming, “The kids need it more,” clearly underestimating my brother’s driving skills. Not five minutes into the ride, my dad hit a rock and the back wheel tore off the buggy entirely. Chaos erupted—mud flew, adrenaline surged, and my brother had a sh*teating grin on his face, while my mother (in the passenger seat with my dad) was mortified.
But in true Cabo fashion, my dad didn’t panic. Instead, he talked his way out of the damage charges by offering beer to the tour guides. Just like that, what could have been a disaster turned into laughter, stories, and a legend we still tell today.
By the end of the ride, we were exhausted, soaked, and coated in layers of sand and mud. The sun was setting over the ocean, casting golden light over the dunes and waves, making everything look even more cinematic. We trudged back to our hotel filthy, happy, and completely alive.
That buggy adventure in Cabo reminded me that the best experiences aren’t neat, clean, or safe. They’re messy, unpredictable, and full of laughter. A little chaos and a lot of mud is exactly what makes a memory unforgettable.
