Yes, and...
I signed up for Comedy Improv at Improv-LA because, why not?
I like being spontaneous, I love making people laugh, and I needed something that didn’t involve me overthinking in front of a laptop. What I didn’t expect was how much a Comedy Improv class would open me up in the most hilarious way possible.
Every week for six weeks, I showed up to class not knowing what ridiculous character or scenario I was about to be thrown into—but that was the magic. We were pirates, squirrels, suburban moms with vendettas. There were no scripts, no pressure to be clever—just a big, weird sandbox to play in with a group of strangers who quickly became the kind of friends you bond with through shared awkwardness and belly laughs.

We cheered each other on. We got weird. And we celebrated that weirdness. There’s something freeing about spending your Thursday nights pretending to be a moody grandpa or an enthusiastic lobster from Maine.
It’s like shaking off adulthood for a few hours and remembering how fun it is to just go with it.
And then… the final show.
We got on stage in front of friends, family, and a bunch of strangers who had no idea what they were in for—and we killed it. I honestly blacked out half the time (in a good way), just riding the wave of “yes, and” energy and feeding off the crowd’s laughter. After the show, I had people I’d never met come up to me with these huge smiles saying how funny and confident I was on stage. One woman even grabbed my hand and said, “You were amazing up there.” I nearly floated out of the theater.

It wasn’t about being perfect—it was about showing up, letting go, and trusting the moment. And somewhere between the warmups and the applause, I remembered how good it feels to just play. To take up space without editing yourself. To say “yes” without worrying about the next beat.
Comedy Improv didn’t just give me new friends or a stage—it gave me back a little piece of myself I didn’t know I was missing.
If you ever get the chance to jump into something like this, even if it feels totally out of your comfort zone? Do it. Say yes. You might just surprise yourself.
